NEW YORK — Game 2 of the Division Series between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees, scheduled for Thursday at 7:37 p.m., has been postponed to Friday at 1 p.m. due to weather forecasts calling for heavy rain in the Big Apple.

Major League Baseball made the decision early Thursday, more than seven hours before the scheduled first pitch.

The Yankees lead 1-0 following their 4-1 win in Game 1 on Tuesday. It is rather unusual to have a day off between the first two games of a sectional series.

This postponement could result in teams having to play four games in as many days in two different cities.

Games 3 and 4 will be played in Cleveland this weekend. If Game 5 is needed, it will be played Monday at Yankee Stadium.

Nestor Cortes (12-4) was expected to be the Yankees’ starter for Thursday’s game against Shane Bieber (13-8).
