A trio of young stars now leads the Majors in the circuits.
Fernando Tatis Jr. joined Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ronald Acuna Jr. at the top with his 17th Homer of the campaign in a 4-3 win for the San Diego Padres over the New York Mets on Thursday night.
The young Padres sensation sent the ball over the fence for the 17th time in the campaign on his turn at bat in the third inning. His slap at the expense of Taijuan Walker allowed the Padres to take control of the game 2-0.
After a run produced by Jurickson Profar in the fourth inning, Tatis Jr. scored the point that made the difference in the fifth. He charged at home plate after a poor throw from Walker to score his team’s fourth point.
Walker left the mound at the end of that set after also allowing seven hits and four walks.
Yu Darvish, for his part, held off the Mets hitters until the sixth inning. He then gave James McCann a two-run homerun to cut the lead in half. Darvish ended his night after one out in the sixth inning with five strikeouts.
The Mets added a run in the eighth inning, but Mark Melancon saved the save in the ninth inning.
The Braves take charge of Corbin
Patrick Corbin faltered in the sixth inning and the Atlanta Braves took the opportunity to shoot for a 5-1 win over the Washington Nations.
Ozzie Albies got the ball rolling in the sixth inning, producing the game’s first point with a single. Austin Riley followed with a double that drove his teammate home.
Dansby Swanson capped his team’s four-point push in this round with his 10th homerun of the campaign.
Corbin left the mound after a sixth setback, but he was still responsible for the Braves’ four points. He allowed six hits and allowed two walks.
Albies produced his second point of the game in the next set.
The Nationals have only had four hits in the game. Tucker Davidson was dominant at the Braves’ mound with a hit allowed in five and two-thirds innings. However, he conceded five walks to his opponents.
