MLB: end of Blue Jays slide after six losses and 16th home run for Vladimir Guerrero son

NEW YORK – Steven Matz delivered his best performance on the mound in nearly two years, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 16th homer of the season, and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 6-2 on Tuesday night.

Vlad’s 16th long ball represents a Major League high this season.

“When he hit that ball to right field, everyone was like, ‘Wow,’ said Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo. It is not easy to do. He hit her hard. «

“He’s one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball. I love the way he plays and I know what he does is not easy to accomplish. «

Corey Kluber, who was on his first start since pulling off a scoreless game last week, saw his exit curtailed after three innings, due to discomfort in his right shoulder.

The former Cy-Young Trophy winner will have to undergo testing before the team provides further details.

Toronto ended its losing streak six times while the Yankees lost for the first time in seven games. The Jays have won five of seven games against New York this season.

Matz (6-2), a 29-year-old left-hander born in the Big Apple, had won 11 games for the Mets in 2019 but struggled in 2020 with a 0-5 record and an earned-run average of 9 , 68.

The Mets then traded him to the Jays in January 2021.

Metz allowed six hits in six and two-thirds innings on Tuesday. He had 10 strikeouts and allowed no walks.
