MLB: Don Mattingly to join Blue Jays as bench coach


The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly closing in on a deal for former Florida Marlins manager Don Mattingly to become the team’s bench coach on John Schneider’s squad, a a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

The Blue Jays could announce the hiring of Mattingly as early as Wednesday morning, according to Joel Sherman of New York Post.

Mattingly, 61, has spent the past seven seasons as Miami manager. The two parties have mutually decided to part ways after the end of the 2022 campaign.

Prior to managing the Los Angeles Marlins and Dodgers, « Donnie Baseball » played 14 seasons with the New York Yankees. He was named to the All-Star Game six times, won nine Gold Gloves and was named the American League Most Outstanding Player in 1985.
