MLB: DJ LeMahieu on list of injured due to hernia

NEW YORK – The New York Yankees have put infielder DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list with a sports hernia.

The Yankees announced it shortly before their last game of the regular season, at home against the Rays.

LeMahieu has not played since being pulled from a game in the sixth inning on Thursday in Toronto.

Rougned Odor will play for third base on Sunday. Tyler Wade and Andrew Velazquez could also play third pad on occasion.

LeMahieu was on three all-star teams and won the batting title on two occasions. He also obtained three Golden Gloves.

This season he has struck for .268 in 150 games, with 10 homers and 57 RBIs.

To replace him in the lineup, the Yankees have called in right-hander Luis Gil of Scranton / Wilkes-Barre, AAA.

Should the Yankees and Red Sox win on Sunday, these two clubs would play a playoff game at Fenway Park on Tuesday.

However, multiple deadlock-breaking scenarios could involve the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners on Monday.
