MLB: Corey Kluber hits Rangers with no points or hits

ARLINGTON, TX – Corey Kluber had Major League baseball’s sixth scoreless game in 2021 on Wednesday, scoring the feat in a 2-0 win for the New York Yankees over the Texas Rangers.

The two-time winner of the Cy Young pitched in a single end last year, and that was with Texas.

Kluber (4-2) struck out nine batters and allowed only one walk (Charlie Culberson, in third).

The 35-year-old right-hander needed 101 shots.

» I had a lot of fun. I think it was a special night, Kluber admitted. I had never made a game without a point or a hit, and no teammate or opponent had succeeded in my career. «

Even though he seemed to be in full control of the situation, Kluber admitted he had to take a deep breath before coming up to the mound in the ninth inning to « calm down a bit. »

He likened it to a playoff game.

Tyler Wade and DJ LeMahieu provided the points in the sixth with a triple and a sacrifice ball, respectively.

The last out of the game was a relay of LeMahieu second goal to first pad, on a ground from Willie Calhoun.

“I had butterflies in my stomach in ninth,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone. I’m getting a little emotional right now, but to have the chance to witness this, it was really special.

“I could see that everyone was excited to play a part in this great moment. What a performance. «

Right field fielder Tyler Wade made a running catch for the second out in the ninth inning.

« I knew I was going to catch that ball, » Wade said. I wasn’t sure if I was going to have to dive or if I could catch it like I did, but I knew I was going to catch it. «

Kluber admitted that the ball could well have become the Rangers’ first hit in the game.

This is the sixth game with no runs or hits in the major leagues this season.

The most recent came on Tuesday, the Tigers’ Spencer Turnbull, at the expense of Seattle.

Two matches of this kind in two days, it had not happened since 1969.

In 2020, Kluber tore a muscle in his shoulder the only time he left the campaign, in July. His season came to an end.

New York hired him at a cost of $ 11 million for this year.

Kluber won the American’s Cy Young twice with the Cleveland Indians, in 2014 and 2017.

A 20e victory in 28 games for the White Sox

Lucas Giolito allowed two hits in eight innings of work, hitting 11 strikeouts, a season high, and guiding the Chicago White Sox to a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

Giolito (3-4) made 111 shots in his longest start of the year. Alone Nelson Cruz, with his 10e circuit of the season, has managed to cross the second cushion for the Twins. Cruz also hit a single in the first inning.

Liam Hendricks was perfect in the ninth inning, signing a ninth save on 11 occasions. The White Sox celebrated a 20e victory in their last 28 games.
