Saint Louis Cardinals rookie Brendan Donovan apologized on Saturday night after netizens discovered homophobic tweets during the day that were written when the player was still a teenager.

The account Twitter de Donovan was removed shortly after Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs in which the 25-year-old hit a two-run double in the 10th inning to lead the Cardinals to a 7-4 victory.

The tweets written in 2011 and 2013 were part of « playful chatter, » Donovan explained.

« I take full responsibility for that, » Donovan said. It’s something I sent a long time ago. I am truly sorry for anyone I may have offended. Anyone who knows me knows that I see everyone the same and don’t condone this type of behavior.

“If I offended you, I truly apologize. I hope I can show you that’s not who I am. »
