MLB: Bob Brenly apologizes to Marcus Stroman

PHOENIX – The analyst of Bally Sports Bob Brenly has apologized for a comment on Marcus Stroman’s New York Mets headgear Marcus Stroman.

“In the game (Tuesday in Arizona), I was wrong in making a bad attempt at humor that lacked sensitivity,” Brenly, once manager of the Diamondbacks, said in a statement.

“I apologize to Marcus Stroman and spoke directly to him about this. I have spoken to D’Backs and we agree that (taking) sensitivity training is an important step in keeping me learning from my mistakes, so that I can be better in the future. «

Brenly made the remark in the fourth inning of a game won 6-5 in 10 innings by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

“I’m pretty sure it’s the same durag Tom Seaver wore when he pitched for the Mets,” said Brenly.

Stroman, after hearing Brenly’s comments, tweeted after the game: « Onward and higher … through all the adversity and racial overtones. » On the rise despite everything! «

Stroman spoke candidly on issues of racial and social justice, particularly after the death of George Floyd.

« He will express his opinion, it will always be authentic, » said Luis Rojas, manager of the Mets. Any conversation you have with him is genuine. «
