MLB – Baseball: Abraham Toro plays heroes with a grand slam

It wasn’t too long ago that the Astros would have been delighted with a grand slam from Abraham Toro. That was certainly not the case on Tuesday night when the Quebecer dispatched Kendall Graveman’s offering past the T-Mobile Park fence in Seattle to deliver a 4-0 win for the Mariners.

The score was still 0-0 when Toro came to the plate with the goals fulfilled in the eighth inning. After trailing 1-2 in the count, the Quebecer saved his turn at bat with three foul balls before sending Graveman’s eighth pitch some 413 feet down to center field. It was Toro’s 10th homerun of the season.

This is the first time in his career that the Longueillais hit a grand slam in the regular season. He had accomplished the feat in 2019 in a preparatory game while wearing the colors of the Astros.

This victory is very important for the Mariners who try to catch these same Astros at the top of the West division of the American. The Mariners are now five games behind the division leaders. The victory also puts Toro’s squad closer to 3.5 games from the Red Sox and the bottom of the draft teams. The Red Sox and Yankees – who occupy those two ranks – have lost their last four and three games respectively.
