MLB August 19 National League recap: Kyle Wright scores 15th win of the season


Kyle Wright picked up his 15th win of the season, tying him for the MLB lead, in a 6-2 Atlanta Braves win over the Houston Astros on Friday.

Only Tony Gonsolin of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Justin Verlander of the Astros have had as many wins as Wright (15-5) this season.

The 26-year-old right-hander went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out seven batters.

Austin Riley put the Braves in charge with a three-run homer in the third inning. This is his 31st long pitch of the season.

Dansby Swanson drove in two runs with a double before crossing home plate on Matt Olson’s sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Kyle Tucker hit his 22nd homer of the season in the loss.

Lance McCullers (1-1), making his second start of the season, held the Braves to three runs in five innings. He allowed seven hits and struck out six batters.

MIL : Andrew McCutchen hit his third long pitch in two games, his 14th of the season.

HCC : Patrick Wisdom and Christopher Morel each hit a two-run homer.

Reds 4 – Pirates 5

NIC : TJ Friedl hit his first home run of the season in the loss.

PIT : Michael Chavis’ single at the end of the ninth inning pushed Kevin Newman to the plate and thus gave the victory to the Pirates.

Mets 7 – Phillies 2

NYM : Pete Alonso hit his 30th homer and drove in three runs.

PHI : Former Blue Jays Bradley Zimmer hit a double in his first game with the Phillies.
