MLB: Adidas drops Fernando Tatis Jr.

Adidas, one of the main sponsors of Fernando Tatis Jr., has decided to drop the star of the San Diego Padres, who is suspended 80 games for doping.

In a statement sent Friday in response to a request from ESPN, an Adidas spokesperson wrote: “We believe that sport should be fair. We have a clear doping policy and can confirm that our partnership with Fernando Tatis Jr. will not continue. »

Tatis, 23, joined Adidas at the start of 2020, on the heels of his outstanding rookie season. He then received his own signature shoe, the Ultra Boost DNA. The terms of Tatis’ contract with Adidas are not known, but his likeness appears to have been scrubbed from the company’s website.

Tatis was suspended 80 games by MLB on August 12 after the anabolic steroid Clostebol was discovered in his body.

The shortstop, who was nearing his return to action after a wrist injury that had kept him sidelined all season, attributed the positive test to a skin medication he he got in his native Dominican Republic. He later expressed remorse in his first-ever media encounter on Tuesday.
