Deprived of Giannis Antetokounmpo but carried by a huge Brook Lopez, author of 33 points, Milwaukee regained the advantage in the Eastern Conference final by winning again at home against the Hawks (123-112) in Game 5 and in the absence of Trae Young on the Hawks side. The Bucks are just one win away from the final.
Milwaukee is almost there. Another victory and the Bucks will return to the NBA Finals, 47 years after their last appearance on the bottom step of the season, in 1974. Even without Giannis Antetokounmpo, victim of hyperextension of the left knee and again absent in Game 6, the third East of the regular season has took the advantage Thursday night in this conference final by having again on his floor (123-112) Hawks deprived also of their best player Trae Young, hit in the right foot. The franchise of Wisconsin, which is chasing a second league title since 1971 (it lost in the finals in 1974, 4-3 against the Boston Celtics), thus leads 3-2 in the series against the Georgians before this match 6 which could definitively validate his ticket, Sunday in Atlanta.
Lopez in a state of grace
However, if the Hawks repeat their (poor) Friday night performance, Milwaukee will have no trouble finishing the job. The fifth of the regular season, knocked out in the first quarter (36-22), has never disputed the clear domination of Bucks carried by a huge Brook Lopez (33 points to 14 of 18 on shots, 7 rebounds, 2 interceptions, 4 blocks), author of the best performance of his life in the play-offs, and who were also able to count on Khris Middleton, very close to the triple-double (26 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists), Jrue Holiday (25 points, 13 assists) and Bobby Portis (22 points), also very valuable in this third success of the players of Wisconsin against Bogdan Bogdanovic (28 points), only Hawk to hold the dragee high to his adversaries, and his teammates. Faced with such superior Bucks, that obviously wasn’t enough.
