The veteran midfielder has signed on to a new lease at Anfield after making another big contribution to Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2021-22.

James Milner has signed a one-year contract extension at Liverpool after rejecting offers from Aston Villa, Newcastle and several MLS clubs. Milner originally arrived at Liverpool on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2015, and has since made 289 appearances for the club in all competitions. 39 of those appearances have come in 2021-22 as the versatile midfielder helped the Reds win the FA Cup and League Cup but was due to become a free agent on June 30.

One year lease for Milner

Liverpool have confirmed that Milner has renewed his contract with the club for a further season. The 36-year-old is said to have accepted a reduced salary in order to prolong his career at Anfield, during which he also won his third Premier League title and a Champions League winner’s medal. Villa and Newcastle had expressed interest in signing Milner on a free transfer, but he rejected his two former clubs.
