Brecht Dejaegere leaves FC Toulouse and Ligue 1 for an adventure in the United States at Charlotte FC. The American club formalized the arrival of the Belgian Thursday on its website. Dejaegere signed a contract until 2025.

« Brecht is a playmaker with attacking instincts. He spent almost ten years with big clubs in Belgium and France. His experience in Europe will benefit the locker room« , said Zoran Krnetathe athletic director of the North Carolina club.

Dejaegere, 32, played for youth at Club Brugge and Kortrijk. He also made his debut at the highest level with Kerels, in a match against Germinal Beerschot. In the summer of 2013, Dejaegere moved to La Gantoise, where he signed the most successful chapter of his career. With the Buffalos, he played 247 games in which he scored 23 times. In the 2014-2015 season, he became Belgian champion with Ghent and won the Supercup.

In the 2020-2021 season, Dejaegere was loaned out by Ghent to French second division club Toulouse. Dejaegere quickly became the team’s captain and in 2022 Téfécé made their return to the top flight after their Ligue 2 title. This year, Toulouse won the Coupe de France beating Nantes 5-1 in the final.

At the end of that season, his expiring contract was not extended, making him a free agent. Rumors spoke of a return to Belgium, but Dejaegere opted for an adventure across the Atlantic. Charlotte FC is currently only twelfth in the Eastern Conference, three points from first place in the playoffs.
