Mercato. Manchester City sign goalkeeper Stefan Ortega from Arminia Bielefeld

Manchester City, the reigning English champion, formalized on Friday the arrival of German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, 29, for three seasons, as understudy for the incumbent, the Brazilian Ederson.

From Arminia Bielefeld

Ortega arrives for free after the end of his contract with Arminia Bielefeld, just relegated from the Bundesliga in the 2nd German division, and where he had spent five seasons. He had been named in a list of potential reserves for the Germany team for Euro 2020.

The German goalkeeper should replace the American Zack Steffen, leaving for Middlesbrough to obtain playing time before the World Cup in Qatar.
