Officially, the Martyrs Stadium is until proven guilty disapproved by the umbrella body of African football. In turn, it will not host the match between the Leopards of the DRC and the Bareas of Madagascar.
“Due to the need to ensure the best conditions in the upcoming qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, we regret to inform you that the stadium does not meet all minimum stadium requirements. of CAF and will therefore not be approved for qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 days 3 & 4 ″, ”indicates the body following the visit of its inspector in the capital.
Due to the stadium’s non-approval, CAF continued, the following decision was taken:
• Formal ban on the DRC from using the Martyrs Stadium for qualifying matches for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on days 3 and 4;
• FECOFA is requested to officially inform CAF by 22 September 2021 deadline of the stadium selected for the next qualifying match for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The date and time previously fixed by the CAF being maintained. In case of non-communication of the requested information, CAF will fix the place in the opponent’s stadium.
For CAF, the work carried out by the Ministry of Sports is only in its renovation phase even if it admits that major renovations have been carried out. “We nevertheless encourage the continuation of the renovation program and the acquisition of all the stadium equipment in accordance with CAF’s remarks. Once the work is completed, a new inspection visit by CAF could be organized to assess the state of preparation of the stadium for the day of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November, ”the statement said.
This decision definitively confirms the relocation of the match to Stade Mazembe, as it remains the only option for the Congolese Football Association.
