Maxi Moralez stays with MLS champions
Midfielder Maxi Moralez, an important cog in New York City FC’s 2021 MLS Cup conquest, signed a contract extension with the team on Saturday.
The 34-year-old Argentinian has signed on for another campaign in the Big Apple and the club also have an option for the 2023 season.
Arriving at NYCFC in 2017 from Club Leon, Mexico, Moralez had an immediate impact on his new team. He had his best moments in 2019, when he was voted to Major League Soccer All-Star and XI of the Year.
“We are in one of the best cities in the world. It’s been five years now, people have treated me extremely well, our fans have always shown me affection, the veteran commented on MLS.com. I am very lucky to be able to stay even longer with the club and in a city where I feel at home. ”
Author of three goals and 11 assists in the regular season in 2021, Moralez outdid himself in the playoffs with a goal and three assists in four games. It allowed the NYCFC to win a championship for the first time in its history.
“I can’t wait to see what this group can accomplish next season. We all want to know another amazing campaign, ”he said.
