Maserati enters Formula E in 2023

The Italian trident firm, Maserati, is starting the first stage of its strategy to return to competition with the Formula E World Championship in 2023.

There were rumors about the probable arrival of the Maserati brand in Formula E, it is now a reality from 2023. Thus, the Stellantis group will be represented by Maserati in Formula E, Peugeot Sport in FIA WEC and at the 24 Hours. du Mans, DS in Formula E and Alfa Romeo in Formula 1.

Maserati’s arrival in Formula E is aligned with the brand’s new policy and its « Folgore » development plan which will lead it to electrify its entire range. All new Maserati models will be available in a 100% electric version, such as the future Grecale, the GranTursimo and GranCabrio or the MC20 supercar.

Maserati will make its grid debut in Season 9 with the new Gen3, the fastest, lightest and most powerful Formula E racing car to date. Maserati’s racing debut took place 96 years ago. The first racing car to carry the Trident logo on the hood was the Tipo 26, which debuted at the Targa Florio in 1926, taking first place in the up to 1.5L class, with Alfieri Maserati at the flying.

Thirty-one years later, Juan Manuel Fangio won the F1 World Championship with Maserati in 1957. The last time Maserati was seen in a single-seater was with Maria Teresa De Filippis, the first woman to qualify for the race. a Formula 1 Grand Prix, aboard a 250F.

Maserati’s very last appearance in racing was the MC12, which won 22 races (including 3 victories in the 24 Hours of Spa) and 14 FIA GT championship titles (constructors ‘championship, drivers’ championship and team championship) from 2004 to 2010.
