At the start of the school year, users of the Kennel stadium at Marly-le-Roi (Yvelines) will discover a ground of soccer brand new.
The latter was closed to sporty since the beginning of July to make it possible to carry out the change of the synthetic carpet dating from 2009.
« A lot of use »
“It’s a field that is part of the first generation of synthetics with a filling based on small rubber balls. Widely used by college, high school and the football club, it had deteriorated quite a bit. We knew we had to replace it. »
Cork balls replace rubber balls
For this project to renew the « skin » of its land, the City has chosen to no longer use marbles in rubber to provide cushioning and rebound but to use balls in cork.
“The elected officials have made a more ecological choice. These rubber balls give off a lot of heat in the summer and have a slightly embarrassing smell. »
These rubber balls are also strongly suspected of being harmful to health.
“We took advantage of the fact that the pitch had to be changed to bring something a little more neutral for the users. This new pitch should have a higher performance sporting performance and a longer lifespan. »
The only drawback: the City will have to upgrade this filling of cork balls once a year compared to once every two years for the rubber ones.
This work also made it possible to set up a filtering system to prevent them from leaving in the wastewater.
Started on July 4, the work should end on August 24 to allow the football club to return to school normally.
“We won’t have any bad surprises, we already know how to use and maintain a synthetic pitch. Practitioners are also used to it. It only remains to make them available to have their return. »
Cost of the operation: 361,906 euros
The cost of this operation is 361,906 euros (excl. VAT). The Ile-de-France Regional Council and the Departmental Council made their contribution by subsidizing respectively 31.5% and 43% of the total amount.
Marly-le-Roi has a second football pitch, this one in grass, at the stadium Francois-Henri de Virieu.
