Marchand gives victory to the Bruins in Game 3


UNIONDALE, New YorkBrad Marchand scored at 3:36 into overtime and the Boston Bruins defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in Game 3 of their second-round series Thursday at the Nassau Coliseum.

Marchand accepted a pass from Charlie mcavoy and scored with a tight wrist shot from the left circle to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead in the four of seven series.

Craig smith scored, and Tuukka Rask made 28 saves for the Bruins.

Mathew Barzal hit the mark, and Semyon Varlamov stood in front of 38 shots for the Islanders.

Teams that win Game 3 of a four-of-seven series tied 1-1 won the series by 65.5 percent (366-156). This was the case for four of the six teams in this situation last year. Game 4 will be held at the same location on Saturday (7:15 p.m.; TVAS, CBC, SN, NBC).

Barzal tied the game 1-1 with 5:26 left in the game, when he drove the puck into the left side net behind Rask to score his first goal of the playoffs.

Rask pulled out the leggings against Anthony Beauvillier with 3:16 to go, and New York failed on the power play, after the center Sean kuraly had struck a double check on Kyle palmieri with 2:15 to play.

The Bruins outscored the Islanders 21-9 in shots in the third period.

Smith gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with an enclave wrist shot following a pass from Taylor hall at 5:52 of the first third.

Rask kept Boston ahead with a shield save against Beauvillier in a breakaway at 7:46 of the first period.

He stopped Beauvillier again on a shot after receiving a pass from Jean-Gabriel Pageau at close range during a power play for the Islanders at 9:45 of the second period. He then frustrated Pageau at 12:42, after Palmieri hit the net.

Varlamov kept the lead to one goal at 14:12 of the second period on a shot after receiving David Krejci to the left circle and against Nick ritchie at 17:02.

Bruins defenseman Brandon carlo left the game at 6:11 of the third period after being checked in the board by the Islanders forward Cal clutterbuck.
