Italy coach Roberto Mancini on Monday unveiled a roster of 39 players for Nations League matches and for the ‘Finalissima’, the clash between the reigning European champions and Copa America winners Argentina. All the players from the European champions squad have been called up except for the injured Federico Chiesa, Gaetano Castrovilli, Rafael Toloi and Ciro Immobile.

Leonardo Spinazzola, the spectacular defender of AS Roma will return in the colors of Italy. Noted for his amazing accelerations during Euro-2020, played in the summer of 2021, he broke his Achilles tendon in the quarter-finals against Belgium (2-1 victory over Italy). The 29-year-old didn’t return to the pitch with Roma until the beginning of May. He will join the Italian group after the first Europa League Conference final, which will see Roma and Feyenoord face off in Tirana, Albania on Wednesday.

Mancini also called up promising Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi and Empoli striker Andrea Pinamonti for the first time. They will feature in the squad alongside Giorgio Chiellini, Italy captain and Juventus Turin centre-back, who will play his last game with the national team in the ‘Finalissima’, the match against Argentina at Wembley on June 1st.

Three days after Chiellini’s farewell, Italy will kick off their Nations League campaign with Germany visiting Bologna, before hosting Hungary in Cesena on June 7. La Nazioale next face England in Wolverhampton on June 11, for a rematch of the Euro final, and travel to Moenchengladbach to face Germany three days later.
