Manchester City still has a short lead over Liverpool, following the success of the two Premier League leaders in Leeds (0-4) and Newcastle (0-1). The watchword is clear: do not concede a point.
The exciting mano a mano continues between Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League. A few hours after the narrow victory of the Reds in Newcastle (0-1), the Citizens did not do anything to respond to their enemies, winning 4-0 on the lawn of Leeds. Three games from the end of the season, Man City keeps its small point ahead of Liverpool. Pep Guardiola’s analysis is as simple as it is exciting: « It’s in our hands. Newcastle, Wolverhampton, West Ham and Aston Villa. We knew exactly what we had to do over this period of a month and a half, two months. If we win, we will be champions. If we lose points, it will be for Liverpool. They too must win ». A priori, the schedule of the Reds is a little less obvious.
Liverpool, who will also play the FA Cup final in two weeks against Chelsea (and therefore remain in contention for an incredible quadruple, after having already won the League Cup against Chelsea), will thus receive Tottenham in the next match. Then, Jürgen Klopp’s players will share two common opponents with Manchester City, namely Aston Villa and Wolverhampton – they will also travel to Southampton. Not to mention that the two giants of English football could meet for a Champions League final as the climax of the season, on May 29 at the Stade de France, a week after the outcome in the Premier League… Liverpool are playing their C1 semi-final return Tuesday at Villarreal (2-0 first leg victory), it will be Wednesday for City at Real Madrid (4-3 first leg).
