Adrien Thibault, 27, is from Saint-Marcel (Morbihan), but the account manager now lives in Malestroit. The young man has always been passionate about sport and especially cycling, which he has practiced in clubs and in competitions.
I have several victories to my name, especially at the departmental level: Chapelle-Caro, Plougoumelen, Taupont in 2017. During the Covid crisis there were a lot fewer competitions, I missed it, it was friends who helped me that moment pushed towards triathlon, a discipline that combines swimming, cycling and runningslips the young athlete.
I had availability, so I started to train at sea, in the pool and I realized that I had a niche to dig. With two disciplines where I was comfortable, I still had to tackle running. I started running alone, early in the morning. My father Guy accompanies me on a bicycle.
A very organized young man
At the beginning, the athlete trained 7 hours a week, today he imposes 15 hours of training.
In June 2020, at the swimming pool, I met Lilian Jarnier, lifeguard, he became my coach, for the swimming part. My mother, Valérie, accompanies me to each competition. This daily support from my loved ones is very important to me, it is my fuel,”says Adrien, who has adopted a way of life that imposes a certain rigor.
6 am jogging, on the lunch slot, I swim and in the evening I am on my bike.
A first step taken
Convinced that triathlon is the discipline in which he can express all his abilities, the Malestroyen has decided to launch a first test by participating in a half iroman, in 2021 in Les Sables-d’Olonne (Vendée).
I finished in the top 30 of my age group, a great race that I completed in less than 5 hours. This performance was the trigger for the following, notes Adrien, who, having completed this first step, had set himself the goal of qualifying for the world championships. And his wish came true on October 2 in Barcelona, on the same race format: 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running.
To my surprise, I finished 10e in the general classification, out of 1,300 participants and 3e of my 25-29 age group, that’s what opened the door to qualifyingsummarizes the champion, who the past surprise will still surpass himself, with a view to this next meeting in Lahti, Finland, in August 2023.
Looking for partners
My goal is to rank in the top thirty in the world. I want to last in the triathlon. Through sport I experience moments that I would not experience in the classic daily life, but it is an expensive sport: high-level equipment, an appointed mechanic (Patricia Glon), travel, coaching commitments and preparation courses, regular follow-up of a physio coach (Maxime Le Gal). I am looking for partners. I will be very proud to wear the colors of a local partner in Finland.
