The Saint-Affricain, co-driver of Mathieu Serradori, occupies 9th place overall, two stages from the finish, in Jeddah.
After the retirement due to injury, following a fall, by biker Kevin Durand, there are still six Aveyronnais racing on the Saudi tracks of the Dakar, which ends Friday in Jeddah. The best classified is Loïc Minaudier, co-driver of Mathieu Serradori, with whom he is in 9th place in the general classification.
After a 4th place obtained during the 5th stage, Thursday, which allowed them to return to the general standings, the crew of the CR6 Century buggy had the heavy task of opening the special the next day. Despite an excellent performance in these conditions (19th), they downgraded a little to the overall standings. They also lost time on Sunday, the day after the rest day, due to overheating problems. But subsequently, the duo raised the bar. Monday and Tuesday, Serradori and Minaudier signed the 7th fastest time (the first among two-wheel drive).
Yesterday, the two men finished 9th in the scratch, which earned them a place in the general standings and to occupy the same rank. « We know tomorrow’s special (today, Editor’s note) can reshuffle the cards. It is a playground on which it is possible to make a difference. We will prepare the car meticulously and precisely and, who knows, create a surprise « , they commented.
Costes and Tressens lost time
For Lionel Costes and Christophe Tressens, the days go by but are not alike. Alternating good performances, including a good 3rd place in their category, and the less good ones, with a 25th fastest time following mechanical problems, the Aveyron crew of the PH Sport buggy lost time in the general classification. It is now in 12th place in the prototypes, after having been in the top 10 for a long time and with the podium in its sights.
The Spaniards Florent Vayssade and Nicolas Rey, after a good first week, had a difficult day during the 8th stage on Monday. « A special day with our first barrels and our first silting, summed up the duo. Fortunately, everything ended well and we were able to reach the bivouac, the essentials being there. « These misadventures led to them breaking out of the top 10 in the category. Yesterday evening, they were in 19th place.
For Jean-Rémy Bergounhe, associated with Gérard Dubuy on a buggy from MD rallye sport, the second week looks like the first. « We did not take any risk at the piloting level, Gérard’s navigation is perfect. We wanted to enter the car clean and the results are rather positive », said Jean-Rémy Bergounhe during the rest day. The duo are currently in 27th place overall.
In motorcycles, after the abandonment of his partner Kevin Durand, Julien Barthélémy remains in the race and is in 97th place in the standings.
