Ligue 1 – Three FC Nates supporters receive a suspended sentence for violence and degradation at Beaujoire last May


Three FC Nantes supporters were sentenced Thursday to six and three months suspended imprisonment by the court for violence and degradation that took place at the end of May at the Beaujoire stadium. While players and employees of FC Nantes celebrated their retention in Ligue 1, around fifty hooded people had burst into the stadium enclosure before attacking a security guard and a waitress, and causing material damage .

Arrested a little later in the evening near the stadium, two of the three supporters were ordered to pay 900 euros in damages to FC Nantes. Jonathan O., 30, Julien R., 31, and Miles R., 22, were also banned for one year from attending sporting events.

« Excessive » sentences, regretted to AFP the lawyer of Miles R., Me Aristote Toussaint, whose client was sentenced to six months in prison for degradation and violence in meetings. He plans to appeal. During the trial, Jonathan O., supporter of FC Nantes engaged against Waldemar Kita, owner and president of the club since 2007, had explained to have lived as an « act of provocation » the fact that close to the management had that evening recovered and brought back to the stadium the coffin of « FC Kita ».

This false coffin had been solemnly buried near the stadium by a thousand supporters, a week before the events, the culmination of a season of mobilization against the Kita family. Two of the three defendants were also prosecuted for violence against a security guard at Beaujoire and a waitress working at the stadium bar that evening. The court ordered them to pay them respectively 1,000 and 800 euros in damages.
