Let’s go for Spa Six Hours!

And if the meeting will begin, as is now the tradition, with a day partially reserved for the Pre-Wars, translate the pre-war cars, even on the road, from Friday morning, the free practice sessions then qualifying will be chain. As for the days of Saturday and Sunday, they will be entirely reserved for the… 15 races scheduled in the program! And this program, let’s talk about it, it is so rich and varied! Obviously, the headliner is the event that gave its name to the Roadbook meeting, the Spa Six Hours Endurance! Saturday, between 3:55 p.m. and 9:55 p.m., nearly 20 Ford GT40s will cross swords with Shelby Cobras, Jaguar E-Types, Lotus Elan 26 Rs, etc. As one of the major European events on the historic racing scene, the 2022 vintage of this half-round of the clock will welcome several motorsport personalities, including Alex Brundle (son of Martin Brundle, GT40), Harrison Newey (son of F1 engineer Adrian Newey, GT40), Christophe Van Riet (Cobra), Fred Bouvy (Cobra), Marc Duez (Cobra), Frank Stippler (GT40), Marino Franchitti (Cobra), Nicolas Minassian (GT40), Eric van de Poele (GT40), Vanina Ickx (Falcon Sprint), Markus Palttala (911), etc.

Make no mistake about it, the rest of the menu is to match, with series more prestigious than each other, which will quite simply allow you to brew… a century of motorsport! This is how the Pre-War Sports Cars saw the icons of the 20s and 30s take to the track, whether they were called Alfa Romeo 8C, Talbot Lago T23, Bentley 3 or 4 ½, or even Bugatti Type 35. Magic… As for the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association, it will review the pre-1966 Grand Prix machines, i.e. a rich starting grid from Brabham, Cooper, BRM, Lister, Lotus, Scarab, with Alfa Romeos as stars P3 and Maserati 250F! It was at the end of the 1950s that Formula Junior appeared, with its small single-seaters with 1000 and 1100cc engines, which for a time was to impose itself as the entry discipline to F1. The Historic Formula Junior will pay homage to him, with well-known brands, such as Brabham, Cooper, Lotus or Elva (and a certain Guy Verhofstadt, former Belgian Prime Minister!), but also countless craftsmen whose names Gemini, Alexis, Condor, Wainer, BMC, Stanguellini, Lynx, Envoy or Elfin.

Still in the single-seater section, the F1 cars between 1966 and 1985 are now united under the name Masters Racing Legends, with many Lotuses in the legendary black and gold colors, McLaren, March, Hill, Ensign, Tyrrell, Williams or Arrows. And a constant fight announced between Marco Werner, triple winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Nick Padmore, historic former F1 champion, Michael Lyons, star of the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, or even Christophe d’Ansembourg, who will try to make the Brabançonne resonate in the heart of the Ardennes. The Masters series constitute a more than significant part of the Spa Six Hours programme, with in particular the Masters Sports Cars Legends, prototypes and GTs which wrote the history of endurance between 1962 and 1974. The Ferrari 512 M of the Dutch David and Olivier Hart will not fail to attract attention, just like the Lola T70 of the British Phil Keen and John Minshaw, but also Martin O’Connell and Steve Brooks. The Masters Gentlemen Drivers give pride of place to touring and grand touring cars from before 1966. There, the stars are Jaguar E-Type, Shelby Cobra, Lotus Elan 26 R, TVR Griffith, Ford Falcon Sprint and Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA. And the victory will be decided between Phil Keen (Jaguar), Christophe Van Riet and Emile Breittmayer (Cobra) or even Michael Lyons (TVR).

Bringing together the ‘least old’ racing cars of the weekend, the Masters Endurance Legends will see protos whose exploits are actually quite recent. Peugeot 908 HDI FAP, Dallara-Oreca, Lola Aston Martin, Ligier LM P2 and LM P3, Zytek 09S, that should delight the youngest generations… Counting among the most qualitative grids, the Woodcote Trophy and Stirling Moss Trophy together will make the a good part of the racing cars of the 1950s. Whose bodies are simply superb. Maserati 300 S, Lister Knobbly and Costin, Jaguar C-Type, so many sports cars that have marked history. As for the Aston Martin DB 2/4, it will see Guy Verhofstadt and Laurent De Meeus at the wheel. Finally, the Belcar Historic Cup appears for the first time on the Spa Six Hours poster, with a plethora of entries and a large number of favorites, including Luc Moortgat (Porsche 964), Guy François (Nissan Primera BTCC), Erik Bruynoghe (Porsche 964), Tom Van Rompuy (BMW M3 E30), Erik Qvick (BMW 320 Turbo Gr.5), Emiel De Weerdt (Ford GT40), Christophe Van Riet (BMW M3 E30), Guy Fastres (BMW M3 E30 ), René Weidig (Ford GT40), Grahame Bryant (Morgan Plus 8), Paul Daniels (Porsche 911 RSR), Eric Mestdagh (BMW 3.0 CSL), etc. Explosive! In addition to this impressive sports program, Spa Six Hours 2022 will pay tribute to Jean Blaton, aka ‘Beurlys’, while fans will have the opportunity to stock up on souvenirs in the paddocks of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, where members of the BEHVA, Belgian federation of old vehicles, will be omnipresent with their cars of yesterday and the day before yesterday…
