We never really imagined the King showing up in the Sarthe department in the middle of the NBA Finals, and we checked today’s date to make sure it’s not an April Fool’s joke. In the end, it is very real.

According to the official Twitter account of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, LeBron James will give the start of this legendary race, this Saturday June 10 at 4 p.m.

“There is nothing better than watching and being able to witness the various sports at their highest level. It is an honor for me to be part of this historic moment in motor racing and one of the greatest sporting events in the world.”

James notably succeeds our national Tony Parker, who kicked off the virtual edition in 2020. Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, obviously welcomed the presence of the King, face of the NBA for so many years and whose name is known all over the planet (via France Info).

“LeBron James is a true sports legend and has a track record and a list of records that command admiration. We look forward to introducing him to the unique atmosphere that reigns on the circuit and the enthusiasm aroused by the Centenary of the greatest endurance race in the world.”

Eliminated by the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, LeBron James has time ahead of him to get a few kiffs. But as surprising as it is, this highly anticipated appearance does not come out of nowhere, the King being closely linked to NASCAR through the Fenway Sports Group (co-owner of the RFK Racing team) where he is a minority shareholder. .
