Lamborghini recycles its leather and carbon – Auto
March 18 was World Recycling Day, a practice that now concerns all companies, even Lamborghini. In the case of car manufacturers, this philosophy has even become crucial for the preservation of natural resources and the reduction of CO2 emissions.
In its latest report, in 2021, the Italian company recovered 51% of all « special » waste produced during the manufacture of its cars. This scrap becomes a resource that is no longer eliminated, but transformed. A glaring example: leather. Some batches do not pass quality control mainly due to natural defects. And many offcuts are created when cutting patterns for seats, dashboards, various trims, etc. Now Lamborghini gives them a new life by transforming them into small personalized leather goods. This activity was developed thanks to an agreement with the Cooperativa Cartiera de Marzabotto (near Bologna), which recycles leather and fabric by-products otherwise destined for landfill. The first four products presented by this « Upcycled Leather Project » are a tote bag, a smartphone case, a card holder and a key ring. Available on lamborghinistore.com and at Lamborghini dealerships, they are all personalized with the brand’s logo and the words « Reduce, Reuse, Recycle ».

This is also the case with carbon, which Lamborghini uses in large quantities. The waste produced when using these refined materials can be recycled. Since 2020, the company has recovered approximately 27 tons of carbon fiber waste that could not be used for other purposes. The material is regenerated and reintegrated into the design of certain parts. It can also be used to create accessories for merchandising. But the carbon offcuts are also donated to technical education institutions for educational purposes, as part of the training of new technicians and engineers. In short: nothing is wasted.
