Lamborghini at the top in 2021

In the midst of a pandemic, sports and luxury car sales have never been higher, as evidenced by the figure announced by Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini: 8,405 cars assembled in Sant’Agata Bolognese were delivered in 2021 , a record for the brand’s history. Sales rose 13% in 2021, « the best year on record commercially, » Lamborghini, which is owned by German giant Volkswagen, said in a statement. « The new year opens with equally positive prospects, thanks to a solid order book which will cover almost all of the production planned for 2022 », specifies the manufacturer.

A majority of Urus

Four new products will be unveiled over the next twelve months, promises the brand to the bull. In 2021, the Urus SUV carried sales with 5,021 units, ahead of the sports cars Huracán (2,586) and Aventador (798). The United States remained the leading market with 2,472 cars delivered (+ 11%), followed by China (935 cars, + 55%), which overtook Germany, now in third place with 706 units, (+ 16%).

Electrification in progress

« In 2022, we will do everything to consolidate our results and prepare for the arrival of our future hybrid range from 2023 », said the CEO of Lamborghini, the German Stephan Winkelmann, quoted in the press release. The prestigious brand had presented in May « its roadmap towards the electrification » of its models, an ambitious plan which involves an investment of more than 1.5 billion euros over four years. In 2023, Lamborghini will launch its first hybrid series model, and « by the end of 2024, the entire range will be electrified, » the manufacturer confirmed on Wednesday. The first fully electric Lamborghini is slated for the « second half of the decade ».
