The argument for the best Premier League team of all time may have been settled as Darren Bent gives talkSPORT his strongest eleven.
The squad contains the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, a record holder for the cleanest linens and arguably the best player of all time.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the active stars of the training
But there was no room for John Terry and Frank Lampard
Since its inception in 1992, the English Premier League has been blessed with some of the most talented players in the world.
The likes of Roy Keane, Frank Lampard, John Terry, Sol Campbell, Sergio Aguero, Dennis Bergkamp have all given fans lasting memories.
That being said, neither of those names made it to Darren Bent’s top team who went for a mix of ancient legends and modern feel.
Gerrard is considered by many to be Liverpool’s greatest player and is one of Bent’s two best central midfielders of all time.
One of the new stars who made Bent’s Cup is Mohamed Salah, who recently became the fastest Liverpool player to score 100 Premier League goals.
When asked if Salah is the best player in the league right now, Bent said: “For me 100% yes.
“I think he’s been superb again this season, I think he already has five Premier League in his first six games.
“He would get my all-time Premier League eleven on the right side, I rate that very well.
“Salah this season has been unplayable.”
It was another historic occasion for Salah who scored his 100th goal against Brentford
Alongside Salah is a whole slew of star names who have accomplished so much for their clubs.
“My goalkeeper is Petr Cech, when he was at Chelsea he was brilliant,” added Bent.
“People can say Peter Schmeichel, I get it, Edwin van der Sar too, but I think Petr Cech, I think he has the cleanest sheets as well as a goalkeeper, he’s been brilliant for Chelsea.
“The left-back was probably the easiest position as well as the center-forwards, Ashley Cole, of course, the best left-back we’ve ever produced.
Ashley Cole won it all at Chelsea – including the Champions League in 2012
“The right-back was tough, I became Kyle Walker, it’s so tough, you have Gary Neville, Lauren, [Pablo] Zabaleta, [Branislav] Ivanovic.
“Two central defenders, Rio Ferdinand, for me the toughest I have played against and Vincent Kompany, he was so difficult to face, Kompany was strong and fast.
“It was difficult to play against Kompany, he was so strong you just couldn’t get past him.
“My two in the middle of the park, still hard, Patrick Vieira, it was not hard, he was always going to fit in there Patrick Vieira.
However, few people will question Vieira’s presence.
“Steven Gerrard next to him, you are obviously going to have people who are going to say Paul Scholes, [Frank] Lampard because of the goals. Steven Gerrard has long been incredible.
« My two large men are [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Salah.
“The two center forwards are Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer. »
