After another disappointing season and more and more questions about his future, Kyle Kuzma is trying to stay the course. Always so confident, he made a big request for the coming year.
The years go by, and Kyle Kuzma clearly struggles to confirm the potential glimpsed during his promising rookie season. Again in difficulty this year with the Lakers, Kuz could also be traded this summer, ending a Californian adventure comparable to a roller coaster ride.
The last survivor of the purple and gold « young core » wants to be confident. A few days after making many fans giggle with the announcement of his goal of number of points scored, the strong-winger returned to the charge at the microphone of Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report.
This time, he had a message for his coach. Frank Vogel can take it for himself:
The most important thing for me is to play in a constant role. If I have this possibility, I will be able to show what I can do. There have been times this season where that was the case, and I’m here to organize the game, to make my teammates better, to score, to shoot, to defend, to take rebounds. If I am in this pattern, everything will be fine.
If Kuzma has floundered several times this season, he says it is because of the permanent role changes he has undergone. It is true that Kuz has seen several hats entrusted to him, with an emphasis sometimes on defense, sometimes on scoring, sometimes on the game without the ball. In the end, he himself had trouble finding his way around and picking up a satisfactory pace.
However, limiting its difficulties to these variations seems a little simplistic. In many areas of the game, and in enough situations to attribute the galley only to Frank Vogel, Kuzma proved insufficient. There is therefore only one remedy: work, and a rebound next year to finally pass a course.
No one knows, however, whether it is indeed in Los Angeles that Kuz will have the opportunity to turn words into actions. The Lakers are looking to attract a big name this summer, and the arrival of a 3rd star via trade would almost necessarily spell the end of the strong-winger, which would be included in the package.
Despite his struggles, Kyle Kuzma keeps his head up and instead sends a message to his coach. A daring technique, it remains to be seen whether it will pay off.
