Kim Ng appointed general manager of the Miami Marlins


The Miami Marlins appointed American Kim Ng as general manager on Friday. Aged 51, the latter becomes the first woman to occupy such a position within one of the 30 teams of the MLB. But she’s also the first woman named to that position on any North American major league professional men’s sports team.

Kim Ng has been in professional baseball for 30 years. In 1990, she joined the Chicago White Sox as assistant director of baseball operations. Then she joined the New York Yankees in 1998 as assistant general manager, and had three World Series victories with the New York franchise.

Ng then took over the management of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002, as vice president and assistant general manager, until 2011.
