Kevin Kalkhoven is gone

Death of Kevin Kalkhoven

This Tuesday, January 4, 2022 the world of IndyCar mourns Kevin Kalkhoven. Winner of the 500 miles as an owner, he died at the age of 77.

He was co-owner with Jimmy Vasser of the #11 KV Racing Technology-SH Racing Dallara with which Tony Kanaan won the Indianapolis 500 in 2013. Besides Tony Kanaan, Will Power, Christiano da Matta, Paul Tracy and Sébastien Bourdais notably drove for Kevin Kalkhoven.

Born in Adelaide, Australia, he bought the CART championship in 2003 with Gerald Forsythe and Paul Gentilozzi. Five years later he bought with Gerald Forsythe Cosworth Engineering.

Motorsport has lost one of its leaders. Kevin Kalkhoven had a great passion for single-seaters. His vision and support helped guide the sport through turbulent times. As the leader of the Champ Car World Series, Cosworth Engineering and the KV Racing Technology team, Kevin has had an incredible impact on INDYCAR. Our thoughts are with the Kalkhoven family and Kevin’s many friends and colleagues.

I met Kevin in 2013 and we quickly developed a friendship and a lot in common. In many ways, winning the 500 miles that year with Tony Kanaan must have been the highlight of his automotive life. Kevin was an energetic person who constantly brought in new ideas with the goal of developing the sport. I will miss him.

Mark Miles, President of Penske Entertainment Corp.
