John Chayka suspended by the NHL

The National Hockey League (NHL) has suspended former Arizona Coyotes general manager John Chayka for the remainder of the year, excluding him from all touring activities until Dec. 31.

At least that’s what the Sportsnet network put forward on Monday. Chayka had been embroiled in a difficult divorce from the Coyotes in July, forcing team owner Alex Meruelo to seek help from Commissioner Gary Bettman to settle the case.

Chayka reportedly terminated his contract to join the New Jersey Devils, but the Coyotes reportedly opposed the move. He had three years on the GM’s contract with the Coyotes at the time of the breach.

The 31-year-old was also involved in a 2020 violation of NHL recruiting guidelines for last year’s draft. The club had also lost two choices in the draft, including its first selection for the next auction.
