Jimmy Butler flies over the series! Luka Doncic a little more in the story; Sad 1st for Harden

A look back at some key stats from the night’s NBA games

Luka Doncic shines again

Luka Doncic led the hard-pressed Mavericks to victory over the Mavs in Game 6 with 33 points at 11/26, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals.

This is already his 5th game of these playoffs with at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The Mavs record in the playoffs was 4 by Dirk Nowitzki. It had taken him 145 games to reach that total of 4 and Doncic surpassed him in 22 games.

Above all, with 33 points, he reached the 700 point mark in the playoffs. Only two players got there faster than him:

It was his 3rd game where his team could be eliminated and he has 39 points in those games. This is the best average in history (at least 3 meetings):

Jimmy Butler joins Dwyane Wade

Jimmy Butler led the Heat to victory in Game 6 with 32 points at 13/29, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. This is simply his 4th game in a row with at least 30 points away in the playoffs. Only one player had ever done this in the history of the franchise: Dwyane Wade in 2005.

On the series, Butler compiled 165 points, 45 rebounds, 33 assists, 10 steals and 4 blocks. He finished as the top scorer, rebounder, passer, interceptor and blocker on his team. On the series he also leads in all categories, with the exception of one: that of assists since James Harden is at 42.

James Harden disappears

Author of 11 points in the first half, James Harden did not score a single point in the second. He totals 0 points in the last two 4th quarters of the series. In comparison Ben Simmons had scored 3 last year in the last two 4th quarters.

On the match he did not attempt a single free throw for 4 lost balls in 43 minutes. It is the first time in his career that he has played at least 33 minutes in the playoffs and has not attempted a free throw.

Over the series he lost 29 balls, 17 more than any other player in the series.

Of the last 9 games where he could be eliminated, James Harden has lost 8 times.

The Mavs smother Phoenix

In Game 6 the Mavericks intercepted 16 balls, their second best performance in playoff history.

History repeating itself for Chris Paul?

The Suns led 2-0 against the Mavericks and they now find themselves embarked on a Game 7. Chris Paul is already the player who in history has lost the most series in 7 games after leading 2-0:

  • 2-0 v Spurs in 2008
  • 2-0 vs. Grizzlies in 2013
  • 2-0 vs. Blazers in 2016
  • 2-0 vs Bucks in 2021
