Jean Alesi would have been taken into police custody on Monday, according to The team. The former Formula 1 driver spontaneously presented himself to the Vaucluse departmental security police station in Avignon, his city of birth, following the arrest of his brother José. The latter was reportedly arrested to be heard as part of an investigation into degradations committed on the night of December 18 to 19 in a town near the city of the popes. Unknown persons allegedly placed an explosive device on the windowsill of an architectural firm, which triggered a detonation which caused some damage, but did not cause injuries.
What is Alesi’s role?
Still according to the sports daily, investigators reportedly succeeded in obtaining the registration of a car used by the suspects. Without knowing what role Jean Alesi would have played in this affair, nor what is the motive for this malicious act. Winner of his only F1 Grand Prix in 1995 in Canada at the wheel of his Ferrari, the ex-driver ended his career in the queen of automobile competitions in 2001, after moving to Tyrrell, Ferrari, Benetton, Sauber, Prost and Jordan. After participating in the DTM and also having tried his hand at other disciplines such as the Speedcar Series, he took part in the Indianapolis 500 in 2012 before hanging up definitively at the end of that same year. And he is now an F1 consultant for Canal +.
