The team of Coast of the Isles (R3, Channel) contests 4e tower of the French football cup in front of Tourlaville (R1), this Sunday, September 25, 2022 (15 hours). Interview, for the occasion, with the captain of the team that will play at home, Quentin Frigout.
News: Your team is having an excellent start to the season…
Quentin Frigout: Yes, in the league, we beat Agon and Val de Saire, two of the favorites for the rise in R2. And in the Coupe de France, we finally have the jerseys, for the first time in the history of the club. Since I was a senior, I was told about that! We had been eliminated twice in the round before, and another time, we had been stupid against La Glacerie in the 2nd round and it was they who had got the jerseys in the end…
Do you think you can create the feat against Tourlaville on Sunday?
QF: It’s a big piece, an R1 team, but we’re going to play it hard. I know the Tirel brothers well, I hope Tom will play because I’ve never lost against him!
What goal have you set for the Coupe de France?
QF: The goal was the shirts. It was the year we talked about them the least that we got them… So now, it’s just a bonus!
Do the club’s ambitions mainly concern the championship?
QF: Yes, we are aiming for the top 5, in a raised hen. And if we can go up, we will not deprive ourselves.
“It makes you think of the year of the rise”
How did the team experience last season and this relegation to R3?
QF: The year was complicated, but the core of the team did not give up and kept smiling. Everyone stayed at the club and gained experience. Because we must not forget that we have a young workforce, apart from Marc Catherine.
Despite your 22 years, you have been the captain of this team for several seasons…
QF: Yes, I have always held this role since the U13s. I think of myself as a leader of men. And then the fact that we’ve all known each other for a long time helps. We are several of the 2000 generation to play in the first team, with Paul Tutrel, Damien Gautier, Oscar Flambard, Valentin Brien and Clément Bihel.
We feel a new momentum within the club this season…
QF: Yes, there are two new co-presidents, Emmanuel Lepigeon and Baptiste Fauvel, who bring new things, a new coach, Christophe Trébert, who wanted to rebuild a group and bring back the desire to train and play. The group is almost unchanged, we have few injuries and the fact of starting the season well restores motivation and helps maintain a good atmosphere.
“Clément Mahé will not play on Sunday”
Does your start to the season remind you of joining R2 three years ago?
QF: It’s true that it reminds us of the year of the climb, when we started with a bang. Our strength is that we conceded very few goals.
And you could also count on a Clément Mahé in great shape, like right now…
QF: Yes, we feel that Clément scares the opponents, he can score at any time. Unfortunately, he will not play on Sunday. Since he doesn’t have a summer vacation and he didn’t think we’d make it to the 4th round, he took a week…
