Indians: Josh Naylor to have surgery on his right ankle (MLB)
CLEVELAND – Cleveland Indians outfielder Josh Naylor will need surgery after sustaining a broken right ankle in a severe collision with teammate second baseman Ernie Clement.
Naylor collided with the rookie in the fourth inning of Sunday’s game at Minnesota while running to the infield to catch a weak ball in the right midfield.
The Indians said it was not an open fracture, but was accompanied by dislocation.
Naylor spent the night in a Minneapolis hospital. He will return to Ohio on Monday and be evaluated in Cleveland by foot and ankle specialist Dr. Mark Berkowitz.
The team did not mention how long Naylor will be on the sidelines.
