Indianapolis 500: Simon Pagenaud in search of « fast 9 »

Candidate for victory in eight days during the mythical 500 Miles of Indianapolis, Simon Pagenaud will know a little more this Saturday during the first of the two qualifying days. The French driver from the Penske team will try to enter the « fast 9 », the nine fastest times of the day, who will fight for pole position on Sunday (drivers ranked 10 to 30 will keep their place on the departure, the last three ranks being allocated during a separate session).

The Frenchman has accumulated 221 laps in total for the three sessions, less than Daly Conor (344 laps), the only one to have passed over 231 mph (231.704), and Sébastien Bourdais (317 laps), author of the fifteenth time (229.869 mph), but more than Fernando Alonso (173), who had electrical issues on Tuesday and crashed out on Wednesday.  » The day (from Friday) was positive. As we had a lot of tires left over from the previous days, we were able to do a lot of laps and we hopefully regained some confidence for qualifying.”, said the Spaniard, who set the 24th time (229.328 mph).
