India may have lost to Pakistan in the World Cup in the end, but these memes are a win

Desi cricket fans had a heartbreaking day on Sunday when Pakistan not only beat India for the first time in their history at the Twenty20 World Cup, but they did so by 10 wickets. While a fiery opening spell from Shaheen Afridi knocked out our two openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, the rest of the batting order failed to score. Half a century of skipper Virat Kohli and short runs from Rishabh Pant secured a 152 goal for the opponents. However, Babar Azam (68) and Mohammed Rizwan (79) easily chased the target, resulting in India’s first World Cup loss to Pakistan in 13 games.

While Pakistan may have won the match on the pitch, it was the memes on social media that took the trophy. The game is long overdue, yes, but if you’re still suffering from a hangover, here are a bunch of memes that will make you see the funny side of this otherwise ghastly affair.

The memes, however, were the only solace for fans in what turned out to be a one-sided affair. After Virat Kohli lost the toss, India was asked to strike first and things started to happen quickly. Shaheen Afridi sent the two openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in the space of 3 overs and captain Kohli was given the difficult task of consolidating. The skipper battled with Rishabh Pant as the first won another crucial round (57 out of 49) to help India break through the 150 point mark. Pakistan’s response was dominant as opening hitters Babar Azam (68) and Mohammad Rizwan (79) chased the target with no hiccups and 13 deliveries to spare.
