A goal from Ondrej Palat 41 seconds from the siren delivered Tampa Bay, winner of New York (3-2) to reduce the gap to two wins to one, Sunday in the Eastern Conference final of the NHL play-offs.
The Lightning, double defending champion, can breathe, because it is the Rangers, already authoritarian winners of their first two games, who first led the dance. Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider indeed allowed NY to take the lead (2-0) in the middle of the second period.
But that’s when Tampa star Nikita Kucherov sounded the revolt by reducing the score, before turning into a decisive passer in the 3rd period for Steven Stamkos then Palat.
The Lightning will try to fully restart the series on Tuesday, still at home.
