– Hofmann was caught up in the cold reality of the NHL
The Romand left the United States through the back door to return to Switzerland during the season. Doesn’t the image and reputation of the Swiss hockey player take a big hit?
AT L‘end of the chain, there is Yannick Weber. A life spent sanding the bands in North America and being balloyoutee dand the shadow (AHL) to light (NHL). The 33-year-old Bernese, back in Switzerland (Zurich) after 13 seasons and 541 games in the NHL, is perhaps the most deserving Swiss hockey player in history. He held on, against all odds, to pursue his dream: to play in the best league on the planet, often in obscure roles when he would certainly have obtained more lucrative contracts in the country.
AT at the other end of the chain, there is Grégory Hofmann, one of the best Swiss strikers and certainly one of the best paid too. The NHL? He also passed, in a gust of wind (24 matches, two goals), without ever finding happiness there.
