Hwang Hee-chan scores goal for Premier League debut


SEOUL, Sep 12 (Yonhap) – Premier League international Hwang Hee-chan scored his first goal on his first day in the English league for Wolverhampton Wanderers in a game against Watford Saturday (local time).

Hwang started his first game with a strong impression, delivering the first win for Wolverhampton in this 2021-2022 season. Wolves beat Watford 2-0 in the game at Vicarage Road in Watford, England.

The South Korean footballer’s transfer to the Premier League club was announced at the end of August on loan from German club RB Leipzig. Hwang thus became the 14th player in the country to don a Premier League jersey.

Hwang entered that opener in the 63rd minute, replacing Francisco Trincão when the score was still goalless. Watford scored on his own in the 74th minute of the game, Hwang scored after Fernando Marçal’s shot bounced off a Watford defender.

The Wolves thus ensured their victory with this second goal. Hwang was even named « King of the match », with 62.2% of the vote cast on the Premier League site.
