Horner would find the arrival of Porsche and Audi in Formula 1 « fantastic »

Rumors of an arrival of Porsche and Audi in Formula 1 have been circulating for several months in the paddock. The two brands, owned by the Volkswagen group, would be ready to arrive by 2026. They would enter as engine manufacturers and several teams would be interested in a partnership.

Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin, had confirmed discussions with the two German brands. Christian Horner welcomed the arrival of two « iconic » automotive names and said he would also enter into discussions with them.

« I think it’s fantastic that they’re talking about coming to Formula 1. They’re iconic brands – the Porsche brand is particularly iconic. It would make sense to have conversations with them after declaring their intention to enter the sport. » rejoiced the boss of Red Bull.

The Austrian team could be tempted to conclude an agreement with one of the two structures so that it provides it with an engine. Red Bull has been an independent engine manufacturer since Honda left this season.

The first steps as « RedBull Powertrains » were complicated with three retirements out of the four cars equipped with this power unit during the first Grand Prix of the season.

A deal could therefore be a win-win as Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess says entering the sport would allow both companies to boost sales through the development of Formula 1 in the US and China .
