Harry Kane fuels exit rumors

England striker Harry Kane did not show up for his club’s pre-season medical tests on Monday, according to several media reports, amid rumors of a possible transfer to Manchester City.

The striker was expected at Tottenham training center for Covid screening and physical tests, after the three-week holiday following Euro-2020, of which England was a finalist. But Kane didn’t show up.

Tottenham, who will face the Citizens for his Premier League debut on August 15, declined to comment on Kane’s absence.

The 28-year-old athlete has publicly expressed his desire to leave at the end of last season, ensuring that he has the tacit agreement of Spurs.

Kane still has three years of contract with the London club, which has not won a major trophy since 2008. President Daniel Levy has no plans to sell his player, valued at around 175 million euros.

The management of the London club would also have assured the new coach Nuno Espirito Santo, even before taking office, that Kane would not be sold.

Downing announces his retirement

In addition, former England international winger Stewart Downing, who notably won the Europa League with Liverpool, announced his retirement on Monday at the age of 37.

“After taking the time to rest and reflect with my family over the summer, I decided it was time to retire,” he wrote on Twitter.

His decision ended a 20-year career, during which he played more than 700 games. He also played 35 times for the England team and took part in the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012 with the Three lions.

“As a child, I could only have dreamed of playing in the clubs I played for,” marveled Downing. I look back on the 35 games played for England with immense pride and have some incredible memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. ”

Downing started his career at Middlesbrough in 2001, with whom he won the League Cup in 2004. He also reached the Europa League final in 2006, before joining Aston Villa in 2009.

Transferred in 2011 to Liverpool, he accumulated 91 games in two seasons with the Reds, with whom he won the Europa League in 2012.

Downing spent two years in the Championship (England D2) with Blackburn, where his contract expired in June.
