“I think things will work out”, Dijon coach Patrice Garande has said of the Girondins’ interest in Grégory Coupet, and barring a big turnaround, the former France international’s arrival at Bordeaux looks like a bargain indeed. who rolls. Currently affected by the Covid, he is expected in the coming days to join the staff of Vladimir Petkovic.
As revealed on our site, Coupet was the Bordeaux leaders’ priority for the position of goalkeeper coach. The first contacts were made in December when management noted that the partnership between Benoît Costil and Vitor Pereira – who had succeeded Fabrice Grange last summer – was not working. This period coincided with the drop in performance of the Bordeaux goalkeeper after a first part of the season which had reopened the doors of the France team to him.
Coupet and Costil wanted to work together
Not satisfied with the work carried out with the one who previously officiated with the reserve, Costil had acquired the habit of training, in parallel, with one of his predecessors at the Frédéric Roux club. A situation that did not suit the technical staff. With Coupet, the club decided to add a goalkeeper coach that he chose while other profiles had also been studied, in particular those of Grégory Malicki and Flavio Roma.
The reciprocal desire of the two men – who have common knowledge – to work together made the difference. They have already had the opportunity to exchange by telephone, and Coupet very quickly materialized with its leaders its desire to join Bordeaux.
After a first experience in Lyon between January 2018 and 2020 where he regretted the lack of consideration of his leaders at the time of his departure, then a second in Dijon, Coupet is about to give a new direction to his career.
