Greg Ives will step down as team manager at the end of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. He will remain with Hendrick Motorsports in a position yet to be defined.
It was through a message on his Twitter account that Greg Ives confirmed his step back at the end of the 2022 season, after seventeen seasons on the road. He had been a crew chief at Hendrick Motorsports since 2015 along with Dale Earnhardt Jr, Jeff Gordon and Alex Bowman.
As crew chief he won ten races, three with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and seven with Alex Bowman.
“After 17 seasons on the road making memories that are priceless, I have decided to step down from my role as team manager at the end of the 2022 season. There are many reasons, but the most important thing is to focus on my family and spend more time with my children as they grow up. Leading the No. 48 team has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I’m happy to go to the playoffs and to fight for the title with Alex and all this incredible group. I am also looking forward to concentrating on my future position which will be with Hendrick Motorsports. I will never have the words to express how grateful I am to be able to live my dream of working in motor racing and I can only thank all the people who have supported me throughout my career.” says Greg Ives in a long message relayed on his Twitter account.
