This is the kind of image that we obviously don’t like to see, and which reminds us of how dangerous this sport is, even when it is celebrated as is currently the case at Goodwood (United Kingdom). ). This Thursday, we came very close to disaster.
A Jaguar Mark One has indeed lost its left rear wheel during a race at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which started on Thursday. The images of the incident, visible below, showed that the left rear wheel had come off, that it bounced for several tens of meters, before going over a bale of straw and being damaged in the spectator area.

A few tens of minutes later, the organizers of the event confirmed on social networks that no one had been seriously injured. “Following the incident during the hill climb, we are pleased to confirm that there were no serious injuries and those involved were able to return to enjoy the event”.
As a reminder, last May, a wheel also hit a barrier during the Indianapolis 500, following a collision between Kyle Kirkwood and Felix Rosenqvist. Again, no spectators were injured, fortunately.
Following the incident on the hillclimb we’re pleased to confirm that there were no serious injuries and those involved were able to go back to enjoying the event.
