Gonzalo Higuain plays the heroes

Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain scored one of the most crucial goals of his Major League Soccer (MLS) career in Inter Miami’s 3-2 victory over DC United on Sunday at Audi Field.

In the 94th minute, midfielder Russell Canouse made a turnover as he tried to reach teammate Christian Benteke. The Florida club restarted the attack on the other side, and DeAndre Yedlin served a perfect pass to Higuain to break the deadlock.

This is the 13th success this season for the 34-year-old forward, a peak in three campaigns in the Garber circuit.

Thanks to this gain, Inter Miami grabbed the seventh and last place giving access to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. However, it has as many points as the Columbus Crew, in eighth place.

Phil Neville’s men can say thank you to Leonardo Campana for this important victory. The Ecuadorian hit the target in the 39th and 53rd minutes to keep his side in the game.

In his fifth appearance in the team’s uniform for the American capital, Benteke, former glory of English club Aston Villa, threaded the needle for the first time. The Belgian skillfully hit a flying ball in the 22nd minute to open the scoring.

Taxiarchis Fountas was the author of the other success of DC United – which is crumbling in the last place in MLS – in the 57th, thanks to a spectacular half-volley resulting from a corner kick.
