Golden State and Phoenix easily won away to Chicago and Indiana respectively, while Memphis lost at home to Dallas after eleven straight wins.

The poster of the night: Chicago – Golden State

Two days after losing 26 points against Brooklyn (112-138), Chicago received another league cador, Golden State. And the Bulls again conceded 138 points, but they scored even less, in the end a heavy 96-138 defeat in front of the 21,174 fans gathered at the United Center. The suspense only lasted a quarter (28-37) then the Warriors completely blew up the Bulls, including a 19-41 in the second quarter (49-60 in the second half). Even deprived of Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Gary Payton II, the Californians walked during this meeting, in the wake of Jonathan Kuminga at 25 points, Jordan Poole at 22, Andrew Wiggins at 21 and Stephen Curry at 19. The Bulls lost Zach LaVine, hit in the knee, after only three minutes of the match, and DeMar DeRozan (17pts, 7pds), Coby White (20pts) and Nikola Vucevic (19pts, 14rbds) were not enough. It is therefore a third defeat in four games for the Bulls, who remain leaders in the East.

The MVP of the night: Joel Embiid

The Cameroonian pivot has been in great shape for a few weeks, and he proved it again on Friday in Philadelphia’s 111-99 victory over Boston. Joel Embiid scored 25 points (7/15 on shots), took 13 rebounds and delivered 6 assists during this success for the 76ers, fifth in the Eastern Conference (Boston is 11th). He was just 5 points short of becoming the first Pennsylvania franchise player to score 30 or more points in nine straight games., and therefore remains at eight, as Allen Iverson and Wilt Chamberlain had done before him. « I knew about it but didn’t really look to chase that record. Both of those guys are legends. I’m surprised Wilt didn’t make it more than eight games. My goal tonight was the win, we won and I’m delighted », reacted Embiid, at the end of this meeting where the 76ers led from the fifth to the last minute, with a lead which climbed to +22 in the middle of the third quarter, despite Jayson Tatum’s 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the Celtics.

The flop of the night: Memphis

After eleven wins in a row (franchise record), Memphis’ incredible streak had to end one day, and it was Dallas who came to stop the Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum. The Mavericks largely won 85-112, thanks in particular to a Luka Doncic author of his 40th career triple-double: 27 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists. The game was very tight for two and a half quarters, with neither team leading by more than eight points, but Dallas started to catch fire in the third quarter (18-34) and confirmed in the last, like its Slovenian genius, who scored 18 points in the second half. The Grizzlies, who were « back-to-back » and playing their fifth game in a week, broke down physically, and moreover only returned 38% of their shots (22.6% at 3pts) even if Ja Morant still held the barracks, with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists.Memphis will be able to rest this weekend, before receiving Chicago on Monday.
